THOSE OLD DAYS-1950-1980
No matter what the new Tanzanian generation thinks of, WE ARE AWESOME!!!! OUR LIFE IS A LIVING PROOF !!!!
Our Tanzanians mothers took aspirin, ate ugali , utumbo wa taulo na mchicha, nyama ya tanganyika packers from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes. Then we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints. We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets on our heads.
As infants & children, we would ride in family cars with no car seats, no booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, no shock absorber, bald tires and sometimes no brakes. We drank water from the mouth of public taps and not from a bottle.
We shared one bottle of coke with four friends and no one actually died from this. (We also learnt the virtue of sharing which seems to be going extinct right now) -so call social networking -keep contacts and sharing information wee achaa tu,,,,!!!!!
We ate cake made with Fat and white bread, with real butter. We drank TreeTop made with real white sugar. And, we weren't overweight. WHY? Because we were always outside playing....that' s why!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the evening lights came on. No one was able to reach us all day. We had no mobile phones. And, we were OKAY!! (Those were peacefull days!)
We did not have Play stations, Nintendo's and X-boxes. There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms.only watchin the YOMBA YOMBA movies if you were lucky and WE ONLY HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them there! (where we could actually verify who they were unlike the case with the internet)
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents. (These accidents actually made us strong)
We would get spankings with belts, roots, twigs, or just the raw bare hand with five fingers and no one would call child services to report abuse. (OMG, those spankings have made us what we are today, with a healthy respect for authority)
We ate crickets, senene, kumbi kumbi, samaki n'changa, grass cutters, squirrels and many others to name a few, pengine hata tembo. Mama always knew how to deal with them with a nice cup of Phillip Milk of Magnesia.
We made up our games with sticks, scraps and pebbles kama mdako or just the bare sand or baba na mama and komborela. We rode wooden bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them, shared their lunch or their mama would prepare our lunch. Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law! And will even punish us for breaking the law. (I shudder to think what my father would have said if I had even suggested that he gives me money to pay for scores, what?)
These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever. The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas. What can kids today do besides push buttons. We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned how to deal with them all.
If YOU are one of them, CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up in this generation.
While you are at it, forward it to your kids so they will know how brave, lucky or providence and that God winked at our ignorance?
CHEERS.

Wapiganaji wa I Coast waelekea mji mkuu

SWEDEN TO SEND FOREIGN PRISONER BACK TO THEIR COUNTRY
swedish jail

The European Union has proposed that prisoners committing offences in another member state should be able to serve their sentences in their home country.
The Swedish government is now set to investigate how the Swedish legislation can be amended to the EU directive. The government met last Thursday to decide to appoint a commission to adapt Swedish legislation to the EU directive, with the general rule being that citizens should serve their sentence in their country of nationality or residence.
"It is important that rehabilitation process takes place in the country in which one lives," Sweden's justice minister Beatrice Ask told Sveriges Television's Rapport news programme.
The opportunity to serve a sentence in a home country already exists and last year 55 people were transferred from Sweden to other EU countries to serve out their time.
But the system is currently based on a set of voluntary rules and in the future it will be harder for the prisoner and the recipient country to refuse a transfer.
Even if the new rules will mean that Swedes convicted of imprisonment in other countries will serve their penalties in Sweden, the pressure on Swedish prisons is expected to decline.
Aside from custodial sentences the changes also apply to psychiatric care, community service and probation.
The government inquiry is due to be completed by September 30th next year

KATUNI UJUMBE
unauliza tena?ikiwezekana ji-edit hata wewe mwenyewe.ukimaliza wanafunzi wanakusubiri hapo chini ukawaambie ni lini watajengewa shule nzuri na kukaa kwenye madawati.

ELIZABETH TAYLOR IS DEAD AT 79
Dame Elizabeth Taylor, one of the 20th Century's biggest movie stars, has died in Los Angeles at the age of 79.
The double Oscar-winning actress had a long history of ill health and was being treated for symptoms of congestive heart failure.
Dame Elizabeth's most famous films included National Velvet, Cleopatra and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
She was equally well-known for her glamour and film partnership with Richard Burton, one of seven husbands.
In her prime, she was arguably one of the world's greatest actresses and most beautiful women.
Her colourful private life, screen success and Aids charity work ensured she was never far from the spotlight since finding fame at the age of 12.
The peak of her film career came in the 1950s and 1960s, with four Oscar nominations in a row from 1958 to 1961.
She lost out in her first three attempts - for Raintree County, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Suddenly, Last Summer - but triumphed at her fourth attempt with Butterfield 8.
Her second Oscar came in 1967 for Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, one of 12 films with Burton.
She met the actor while filming 1963's Cleopatra - which became notorious as one of the most expensive films of all time, but which also sparked one of Hollywood's greatest romances.
Taylor had already been married four times - to Conrad Hilton, Michael Wilding, Michael Todd and Eddie Fisher - before she wed Burton in 1964.
Their tempestuous relationship saw them divorce and remarry in 1975 before she moved on to further marriages with John W Warner and Larry Fortensky.
Her health problems began with a fall while filming her first hit film, National Velvet, which led to a lifetime of back problems.
A rare strain of pneumonia almost killed her in 1961 and she also battled addictions to alcohol and painkillers.
In the 1990s, she endured two hip replacement operations and another near-fatal bout of pneumonia and survived surgery for a benign brain tumour in 1997.
In 2004, it was revealed that she was suffering from congestive heart failure, with symptoms including fatigue and shortness of breath, and scoliosis, which twisted her spine.
But she continued to campaign for her Aids charity, which she set up in 1991 after the death of her friend and co-star Rock Hudson
