BIOGRAPHY
Alain Yoka Mpela was born in 1971 in Kinshasa in a family of eight children all bitten by the music bug. Their father, Jean-Robert Yoka Mpela, was a former seminarist and organist, and their mother, Marie-Madeleine, a singer. Alain’s initial repertoire consisted of religious songs performed at his father’s catholic school. Afterwards came membership in several church choruses like Chochriza (The Chorus of Christ in Zaïre) and others.
A great admirer of Viva Musica Alain liked to sing the songs of Kester Emeneya. One day in 1986, while on holiday in his aunt with Bandale, Alain accepted a visit from destiny in the form of... Werrason. Werrason had heard Alain sing, and, interested, invited him to meet with his neighborhood orchestra companions, Wenge Musica.
Alain Mpela remained with the original Wenge group for twelve years, until his 1998. At that time, he joined JB Mpiana’s BCBG where he assumed the role of band leader for five years before founding his own group, Generation
