Drunk Swede drove to police station to pick up drunk friend

A 28-year-old man is facing drunk driving charges after he drove tOo the police station in Malmö in southern Sweden to pick up his friend who had been arrested for driving under the influence earlier that day.
After parking outside the police station, the 28-year-old entered the lobby, where he argued with a security guard after indicating that he was there to pick up his friend, the local Skånska Dagbladet newspaper reported.

The guard suspected the man had been drinking and alerted a police officer who was just arriving at the station.

The officer gave the 28-year-old man a breathalyser test, which revealed he was well over Sweden's legal blood alcohol level.

During questioning, the man said he had a sudden impulse in the middle of the night to go pick up his friend who had been arrested for drunk driving earlier in the day.

"I didn't feel drunk, but I had been drinking, so it was unnecessary and poorly thought out," said the 28-year-old, according to the newspaper.

Not only did the man decide to drive under the influence to the police station to pick up his friend, he drove the same vehicle his friend had driven when he was arrested earlier in the day.

On Tuesday, the man was charged with aggravated drunken driving for the September 2010 incident.
